Ranging from hypnotically melancholic to blues driven dive-bar riffs, Gia Ransome’s music is a uniquely powerful entity. Most commonly compared to artists like Lana Del Rey or Alexandra Savior, and drawing influence from indie, rock, psychedelia, and alternative/folk music, her sound is enticingly dark, dramatic and enchanting.
Debuting in March with her single, ‘Boots’, she has wasted no time in 2023, following it up with her psychedelic sophomore single, ‘Crush’, which she took on a seven date tour of the Australian east coast. Switching things up from her two indie/rock singles, she then released ‘Winter’, an intimate acoustic EP, which was critically well reviewed for its depth of emotion and vulnerability. The EP highlights a more delicate side of the singer/songwriter than the dark drama she has become known for. To close the year, she will release another single on the 1st of December, ‘Morning Light’, bringing to her sound the energy of summer’s warmer weather.
Since its release, ‘Boots’ has now been nominated for two local awards in 2023; including Music ACT’s Independent Debut of the Year, and is a finalist in the Canberra Short Film Festival for its music video, made in collaboration with Nuance Media and director Georgia Arndell.
An acoustic singer/songwriter prior to her debut as ‘Gia Ransome’, she has previously performed internationally in Europe and the UK, having lived in London for a time before returning to Australia’s capital city, Canberra, in 2020. Upon her return, she was the 2020 Voyager International Songwriting Competition’s winner for best original song performance with her song ‘Belladonna’, performed in London with Dutch-Israeli group Zenith Duo.
In 2024 the momentum continues for Gia, with new music releases, collaborations, and plans to take her music on tour.
